Glassborow CS Career Description

Charles Sidney Glassborow

Entered the College 1908.

On leaving the College in 1910 he was a pupil farmer at Piddinghoe near Newhaven until 1912, when he went to Perth, Western Australia. He successfully farmed there until 1915 when he enlisted as a private in ‘the 11th Light Trench Mortar Battery, Australian Imperial Forces.’ He came over to England in the summer of 1916 and finished his training on Salisbury Plain. He went to France just before Xmas 1916. Served on the Armentieres Front and was killed 14th March 1917. He was buried in ‘the Cite Bon Jean Military Cemetery Armentieres France.’ He received a temporary promotion to Corporal a few days prior to being killed and we are given to understand that it would have been substantiated very shortly had the misfortune not happened.
