2nd Lieutenant Alfred Douglas Wingate
Born 12th June 1894, Alfred Wingate was the only surviving son of Sir Andrew Wingate, KCIE, ICS. While at Dulwich he was a member of OTC and on leaving, passed into the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, as a King’s India Cadet. He was in the winning Revolver Team against the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, in 1914, and won the Silver Cup in the Open Revolver Competition, Sandhurst. He was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant in August 1914, to the Unattached List, Indian Army, and attached to the 4th Reserve Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, at Lenan Camp, Donegal, proceeding overseas in November, when he joined the 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was selected to command the regimental bombers and was killed in action while leading the charge at dawn at Richebourg l’Avoué on 16th May 1915
