Born 25th January 1889. Before the war, Charles led a promising career in law. After graduating from Dulwich College he was articled to Messrs. Rashleigh, Son & Hall in Lincoln’s Inn, where he gained his qualification as a Solicitor, joining the firm of Messrs. John Storey & Son in Leicester.

When war broke out he was gazetted temporary 2nd lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery in June 1915. Towards the end of the year Charles was posted to France and was attached to the 235th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, with whom he saw considerable service, and in May 1917 was awarded the Military Cross for successfully extinguishing a burning ammunition dump whilst his battery was under heavy shelling. Early into 1918 he was transferred to the Royal Air Force as an observer, where he soon contracted double pneumonia whilst returning from France. He died as a result of the illness on the 21st November 1918.
