Lieutenant Horace William Henry Vaughan

Born on January 12th 1876 in Islington, Horace was the son of William and Florence Vaughan and had three siblings, Clinton, Violet and Irene. After leaving the College he spent much of his life in Sutton, with his wife Millicent, whom he married on 28th May 1899 in St Stephens Chapel in Sydenham Hill. He worked as a manufacturer of furniture and had two children, Winston and Justin Vaughan. In January 1915, he took a temporary commission in The King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment but was later transferred to the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers, with whom he served in Gallipoli. He was killed in action at Achi Baba on 4th June 1915. Horace is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Turkey.
