2nd Lieutenant Henry Hamilton Sheridan
Henry was born on August 1st 1882, the son of a Mr. C.J. Sheridan, an Irishman who was a resident of Dulwich and later of Norwood. He came to Dulwich in May 1895 and was a pupil at the College for the next five years, leaving in the summer of 1900 whilst a member of the Army Sixth. From Dulwich he went on to Sandhurst, although this did not lead directly to a career in the military. In 1905 he qualified as a chartered accountant and subsequently went over to America, at first the United States, then Mexico, and ultimately Argentina. When he was in Buenos Aires he was employed by Price Waterhouse & Co., working in the role of Principal Assistant for them in Argentina.
In May 1916 Henry returned to England where he spent time with a cadet unit based at Wadham College, Oxford, being granted a commission in the Royal Irish Fusiliers that October. He spent time training with the 3rd Battalion at Armagh before being transferred to the 1st Battalion with whom he went over to the front. On May 3rd 1917 he led an attack from which he and his party never returned. He was declared missing, and later officially announced to have died on that day.
