2nd Lieutenant Reginald Wigmore Sancroft Randall
Born on October 15th 1894, Reginald was the third of four surviving children, of whom he was the only son, born to civil engineer William Randall, who passed away shortly before Reginald’s sixth birthday, and his wife, Eveline. His paternal grandfather, Samuel Randall, had been a Groom of the Privy Chamber during the 1850s and 60s. He came to Dulwich in 1907 having previously been at school in Blackheath and was at the College for nearly five years, leaving in the spring of 1912 whilst a member of the Modern Remove.
Shortly after war was declared in 1914 Reginald enlisted as a member of the Artists Rifles, with whom he spent his first six months or so of service, during which time he was stationed in England. In March 1915 he was given a commission in the Northampton Regiment and went over to the front for the first time with his new unit shortly afterwards. Less than two months later, on May 9th, he was declared missing in action, after having been last seen coming under heavy fire whilst leading an attack on a German trench at Aubers Ridge. His body was never found and he was officially declared to have died that day.
