Captain Charles Stevenson Murray
Born 15th July 1870, Charles was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Murray and had two brothers, James and Patrick Murray. During the period when Charles was growing up, the family were based in Chester. Charles left the College in 1884 whilst he was in the Lower 3rd, and from there he joined the Army. By 1896, Charles was fighting in Africa, taking part in both the Matabele War and, from 1899 to 1902, the Boer War.
During World War I, Charles was serving in France with the 12th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, when on 1st July 1917 he died of wounds received earlier at the Battle of the Somme. He is buried at the Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery.
