Private John Herbert Moore
Born on November 22nd 1896, John was the son of wholesaler Francis Moore and his wife, Emily. He came to Dulwich at the beginning of 1911 and was at the College for the next two years, leaving at the end of 1912, whilst a member of the Modern Upper Fifth.
In September 1914, a month after war had been declared in Europe, John enlisted as a member of the Kensington Battalion of the London Regiment, and went over to France with his new unit for the first time the following February. They went on to see service at Neuve Chapelle and at Aubers Ridge. It was during the latter action, on May 9th, that he was reported wounded and missing, and was later ruled to have lost his life that day.
