2nd Lieutenant Eustace Fernando Llarena
Born on April 19th 1892, Eustace was the elder of two children born to Spanish electrical engineer Fernando Llarena and his British wife, Beatrice. He was at Dulwich for five years, between April 1905 and the summer of 1910, leaving from the Science Fifth. After having left Dulwich he began studying at Guy’s Hospital, where he was a member of their water polo team, and was also a regular member of both the OAs, and the OA Gymnastic Club.
In August 1914, as soon as war was declared, Eustace enrolled for military service as a member of the Artists Rifles. He went over to the continent with his new regiment for the first time that October, before being gazetted to a commission in the Suffolk Regiment in February 1915. He was serving with his new regiment at Ypres later that summer when he was killed in action, on the evening of June 18th.
