Lieutenant Eric Stuart Livock
Eric was born in Argentina on March 2nd 1895, the son of a British couple, mechanical engineer Henry Livock and his wife, Mary. He joined the College at the beginning of 1908, nine months or so after his elder brother, Arthur, had left, for what would eventually be five and a half years at Dulwich. He was a boarder in Elm Lawn. He spent two years in the 2nd XV, in the autumns of 1911 and 1912, and followed up the latter by also playing for the 3rd XI cricket team in the 1913 season. That year, his final one at the College, also saw him, outside of the sporting realm, serve as Head of his boarding house, and play a major role in the College Play. After leaving he joined Stone’s Engineering Works, Deptford.
Shortly after the declaration of war, in September 1914, Eric enlisted in the Artists Rifles, with whom he served for a year before taking up a commission in the Royal West Surreys. In October 1916 he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and the following March became a fully qualified pilot, subsequently going over to the continent on July 26th, attached to 7th Squadron. On November 8th 1917 he was flying a sortie near Passchendaele when his plane was brought down by a shell, killing both him and his observer.
