2nd Lieutenant Cyril Thornton Jensen
Born on the Caribbean island of Trinidad on September 4th 1885, Cyril was the eldest son of Carl Jensen and his wife, Stephanie. The family went on to spend time in India before settling in London and he joined the College in May 1897. After just over three years at Dulwich he left in the summer of 1900, ending his College career whilst a member of the Classical Upper Fourth. After leaving he went into the telegraph industry and spent over a decade employed as a clerk in the Eastern Telegraph Company.
In March 1915 Cyril volunteered as a member of the Artists Rifles, and went on to receive a commission in the Manchester Regiment that July. He went over to France for the first time in March 1916 and was for a short time attached to the 17th Battalion before being reassigned to the 90th Trench Mortar Battery. It was while serving with this unit that he was killed in action, on May 10th 1916, at the age of 30. He was survived by his widow Winifred, whom he had married in 1909.
