Stretcher Bearer Georges Galoffre

Born 14th February 1882, Georges was the son of Eugene Galoffre, a hat manufacturer in Paris. He joined the school in 1896 and was a boarder in the Orchard, as the rest of his family remained in France. Having left the College in 1897, whilst in the Modern Lower 4th, he joined his father’s company, being employed there until the war started.
After war broke out, he was mobilized in late 1914 and joined the 38th Colonial Regiment, and had gone to the front in June 1915 as a stretcher bearer. It was during the Battle of Champagne that he was killed on the battlefield at Perthes-les-Hurlus on 8th October, 1915. He was mentioned in dispatches for good conduct and thus earned the Croix de Guerre.
