Lieutenant George Howard Foord
George was born on April 7th 1885, the only son of solicitor Thomas Foord and his wife, Ida. The family had very strong Dulwich connections, as not only was his father an OA, but so were four of his uncles, a cousin, and his brother in law. After leaving Dulwich he went up to Pembroke College, Cambridge, ultimately graduating with an M.A. degree. After returning to London he took up a role in his father’s firm, becoming a fully qualified solicitor in 1909, and ultimately being made a partner in the firm.
He signed up in March of 1915, and was at first given a temporary commission in the Royal Army Service Corps, where after several months of training he was promoted to Lieutenant. In September of 1915 George and his unit set sail for Gallipoli; on October 13th, not long after arriving, he was killed by a shell. He was survived by his widow, Gertrude, and their son, Roy, who would also go on to attend the College.
