2nd Lieutenant Roger Graham Dawson
Roger was born on February 27th 1884 in Streatham to shoe manufacturer John Dawson and his wife Maude. Having previously been at the Prep, he came to the College at the age of 14, following the path of his elder brother John. After two and a half years spent at Dulwich he left, and subsequently went on a round the world trip. On his return he went into business in Northampton, but he was unsettled, and then decided to try his luck as an actor, spending around eighteen months or so on the stage. After this he returned once more to Northampton, this time settling down with a greater degree of success, and was still there when war was declared.
After the war had been declared Roger took a commission in the Artists Rifles, before later on transferring to the 3rd Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment. It was with this regiment that he went to France in the spring of 1918, albeit attached to the 6th Battalion. On September 18th that year he was involved in the fighting near the Hindenburg Line when he was killed in action, and was buried at Peronne. He was survived by his widow Beatrice.
