Lance Corporal Frederick William Bray

Frederick was the second child, and only son, of William Bray – a private tutor – and his wife Isabella. After leaving Dulwich in 1911 from the fifth form he entered the world of engineering, and also became a keen member of the Old Alleynians Club, even staying around during the summer months in order to help the Ground Staff.

Within a week of the declaration of War in early August 1914, Frederick had signed up as a member of the Surrey Rifles, being granted the position of Lance-Corporal and subsequently being sent to the Front in France with his regiment. On May 25th 1915 he was serving near Givenchy when he was killed in action.
