Lieutenant Ormond Thomas Blair
Ormond was born in British Columbia, Canada, on January 16th 1890, the son of merchant George Blair. Whilst he was at the College he was a boarder in the Orchard and specialised in Engineering subjects, with a particular strength in mechanical drawing and draughtsmanship, and in his final year he was a member of the 3rd XV. After finishing at Dulwich he returned to his home in Vancouver, and assisted with his father’s mercantile business for several years.
In early 1916 he joined the Seaforth Highlanders whilst still in Vancouver, and subsequently came to Europe, reaching the Front in April. Ormond went on to serve at the Battle of the Somme, and was returning from a night reconnaissance mission near Albert on 12th November when he was fatally struck by a German machine gun.
