2nd Lieutenant Robert Blagden
Robert was born on March 8th 1880 in Buenos Aires, the second son of Joseph Blagden, a stockbroker. He and his elder brother George were not the only members of the Blagden family to attend Dulwich, as four of their cousins also did so. Robert came to the College from the Prep, and during his time was a boarder in Ivyholme. After leaving he returned to Buenos Aires to work for the British Bank of South America, ultimately becoming a branch manager.
In May 1915 he returned to England in order to volunteer, spending time in the Inns of Court O.T.C. before being assigned to a commission in the Norfolk Regiment. In February of 1916 Robert was sent to France for the first time, and was advancing across no man’s land near Hulluch with his men on 22nd April when a German bomb landed nearby, severely wounding him. He passed away of his wounds whilst in hospital in Calais on May 12th.
