Observer Alfred Lebeau
Born on November 15th 1898, in Fleurus, Belgium, Alfred was the son of Henri Lebeau and his wife, Marie. He spent his childhood in Etterbeek, a suburb of Brussels, and was educated at the Ecole Normale de Bruxelles. After the German invasion of Belgium he fled to London, and at the start of 1915 was one of a small group of Belgian refugees admitted to the College. His time at Dulwich lasted a year as he left at Christmas 1915, having been a member of the Modern Upper Fourth.
In June 1917 Alfred was called up for service by the Belgian Army and subsequently went over to the front that December, appointed to the 8th Regiment of Field Artillery. Ten months later, on October 14th 1918, he died of wounds whilst in the Belgian Military Hospital at Beveren. His service would see him awarded the Croix de Guerre, as well as the Order of Leopold.
