2nd Lieutenant Lambert Annesley Hotchkin
Lambert was born on June 2nd 1897, the only son of William Hotchkin, a surgical instrument manufacturer, and his wife, Adelaide. After joining Dulwich in September 1910, he was at the College for the next five years and spent his final summer in 1915 playing for the cricket 2nd XI. In June 1913 he had matriculated at London University, although he remained at the College for the next two years.
Shortly after leaving Dulwich, in September 1915, Lambert obtained a commission in the 21st Battalion of the London Regiment and spent the following nine months in training at Tidworth and Winchester. In June 1916 he went over to the continent for the first time and was later sent to the Somme. On October 8th 1916, while serving near Eaucourt d’Abbe, he was at first reported wounded and missing; this was, however, later changed, and he was officially regarded as having been killed in action that day.
