Captain Evan James Stanley Vaughan
Evan was born February 9th 1890, in Fulham, the son of Herbert and Emma Vaughan. Once he left the college 1906, he worked as a mercantile assistant, and was also in the West Kent Yeomanry, he remained a keen member of the OAs. Afterwards he moved to Kobe, Japan, however soon after the outbreak of the War Evan came home. In March 1915, he gained a temporary commission in the 9th Service Battalion, The Buffs, but later moved to the 13th Service Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment, with whom he was serving when promoted to Captain in March 1916. Upon first being sent to the continent in October 1915, Evan was assigned to Belgian sector of the front, before being reassigned to the Somme the following August. That same month, on the 18th, he was killed in action whilst leading an attack on Guillemont. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
