Born 29th November 1887, Arthur was the only son of Arthur Brown, Sr., a commercial clerk in the City, and his wife Susannah. He came to the College having previously been educated at the Prep, and after he had left Dulwich went on to train as an accountant, receiving his full qualification as a Chartered Accountant in early 1913.
He joined the Inns of Court O.T.C. upon the outbreak of war and subsequently, in October 1915, gained his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 27th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment. Horace was subsequently temporarily attached to the both the 24th and 17th Battalions, before being sent to France during the early part of 1916. He was killed in action on July 9th, at Trones Wood on the Somme, having originally been declared missing.
