2nd Lieutenant Akehurst Wilson Holmes
Wilson was born on November 30th 1895, the only child of electrical engineer Ernest Holmes and his wife, Emily. Having joined Dulwich in the spring of 1909 he was at the College for five years, leaving in the summer of 1914 whilst a member of the Science Remove. After leaving he went on to the Royal College of Science at South Kensington where he was a student for two years.
In May 1916 Wilson left the R.C.S. and took up a place at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, instead, passing out that December when granted a commission in the Royal Garrison Artillery. In January 1917 he went over to France for the first time and was at first attached to the 245th Siege Battery, serving near Messines. Later that year he was switched to the 295th Siege Battery, shortly before they were transferred to Armentieres that July. Shortly afterwards, on the morning of July 28th 1917, he was seriously wounded by a shell whilst on duty, dying later that day.
