Sub Lieutenant Cecil Ernest Cloak Flood
Cecil was born on May 28th 1894, the son of Royal Navy engineer Frederick Flood and his wife, Eleanor. He was born in Gillingham, Kent, but the family later moved to Herne Hill, where they were resident when Cecil began at the College at the age of 13. He was a pupil for the next five years, leaving in the summer of 1912 whilst a member of the Mathematical Remove, although he did remain an active member of the Old Alleynians.
He signed up shortly after war began in the early autumn of 1914, and spent the next several months serving in England as a motorcycle despatch rider, attached to the Royal Engineers Staff at Walmer. In January 1915 he was given a commission in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, and was subsequently attached to ‘Anson’ Battalion of the Royal Naval Division. He was serving with this unit at Gallipoli when he was killed on June 10th 1915.
